Morgan Horse Ranch

The Morgan Horse Fund

The Morgan Horse Fund was established to raise funds for revitalizing this important program in 2021 and to help with the purchase of two young horses, four matching saddles, new blankets, food and operating costs.

The Morgan Horse program was established at Point Reyes National Seashore in 1970 as an interpretive program as well as a breeding and training program to provide horses for the National Park Service. While no longer providing Morgan horses for the National Park Service (individual parks now maintain their own stables), Park Rangers at Point Reyes currently care for four horses at the Morgan Horse Ranch - Honcho (pictured above), Elvis, Rose, and Mira. They use the mounts for patrol deep into the backcountry and along the beaches, so as to not disturb the natural beauty and wilderness aspects of Point Reyes National Seashore. The horses are also used to assist with the tule elk census and the harbor seal counts, welcome visitors, work the trails, and ride in parades and special events.
